The Power of Connections

The Power of Connections found and forged in Irish Men’s Sheds formed the focus of our conference this year.

Men’s Sheds are community spaces which allow men to build a social network and engage in their communities and share skills. The Men’s Sheds are inherently health promoting due to the sense of meaning, camaraderie and social support offered within them. Our sheds serve the needs of men and the communities in which they are located, and the activities that are undertaken in each shed are as diverse as the men who engage and participate within them. Men’s Sheds offer an interchangeable mix of people , place and purpose; where men can find meaning, sometimes at points of transition or change in their lives.

Sheds also act as wider community enablers and connectors as all sheds are deeply involved in their communities and facilitate other organisations to deliver on their goals & projects, such as Tidy Towns, sports clubs, youth clubs, retirement groups, etc. Men’s Sheds are a global and Irish phenomenon and a cause for celebration, shoulder to shoulder!
