“It has given me a new meaning in life, and given me back my self-esteem”.
Eddie Fitzpatrick, a member of Athy Men’s Shed, did not mince his words when I asked him how the place has changed his life. He is not alone, as this short film shows.
It gives an insight into what the community shed means to it’s members, and how it’s benefits are wide ranging.
The Community Men’s Shed movement, which originated in Australia, started in Ireland a year ago and now boasts over 3,000 members with 115 sheds set up nationwide. It is a non-commercial organisation, which allows men of all backgrounds gather to work on worthwhile projects, but it’s main aim is to provide them with a safe and friendly environment which focuses on their health and well-being.
