  • A Sensory Garden – Navigating grief and loss in Kerry

We joined forces with the Irish Hospice Foundation to explore how Sheds nationwide could support their communities navigate grief and loss. As seen in this clip, Killarney Men’s Shed in Kerry used concrete to build a permanent sensory garden at the entrance to their Shed for all to enjoy as a tribute to lost loved ones.  Learn more about these Projects: https://hospicefoundation.ie/our-supports-services/ihf-in-the-community/arts-and-creativity/mens-sheds/

Sheds occupy a unique place in Irish communities, where men in Sheds support each other ‘shoulder to shoulder’, including during times of grief and loss. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, approximately 10,000 men were visiting a Shed somewhere in Ireland every week. The impact of the two-year lockdown on the Shed network was significant, particularly in relation to physical health and emotional well-being, along with a slow return to pre-pandemic attendance at local level.
