Rostrevor Goes West
As part of the Irish Men’s Sheds Association’s cross – border initiative, Rostrevor Men’s Shed made a 586km round trip to Westport Men’s Shed in January. Arriving in Westport on a Friday, the weekend started with a warm welcome at the Wyatt Hotel, which was followed by a meal and a singalong with shedders Kieran, Malachy and Connor playing the guitar and ukuleles.
Saturday morning kicked off with a visit to the Westport Men’s Shed. The men enjoyed a great morning chatting and sharing ideas over a hot cup of tea. The Rostrevor men said they were very impressed by the work carried out in the Westport Shed, particularly the restoration of an old tractor and farm machinery which went out to Africa.
The trip also led the gang to the beautiful Achill Island. Marked by rugged mountains and peat bogs, the island is known for its tall sea cliffs and clean beaches, along with its breathtaking scenery. The journey back was rounded off with lunch at the very idyllic location of Lusty Beg. The test was hugely successful and testament to shedders dedication to building cross – border relationships
