About Shed
The Kilmacrennan Men’s Shed started out from a very small meeting called by Jim Doherty in a our local school in June 2013, a meeting attended by only one other man, Seamus Mcintyre.
Following on from this meeting, Jim called a further meeting in September 2013 and from this meeting it was decided to try and locate and secure a premises to set up a Men’s Shed in the area to bring like minded and isolated men in the locality together. After a search of the village, a small old derelict cottage was identified as a suitable location and a lease was secured for this and repair works undertaken with very little money, but with a lot of heart from the men who decided that they wanted this thing to succeed. What started out as a derelict cottage has now become a hub of our village and has grown from just these first two men who attended that meeting in 2013, to a very successful shed with nineteen members and a great community spirit.
We are deeply indebted to our current chairman, Daniel, for his continuing support and long-term lease he has given to us on the building, this will allow us to further develop our shed. We have a very well kitted out workshop with modern woodworking and woodturning equipment and have a variety of skilled members who have encouraged others to try new skills. We always welcome new people to come along and see what a Men’s Shed is all about and maybe join us.
