National Bike Week and The Good Bike Project

Bike Week 2026 runs from Saturday 9th – Sunday 17th May 2026. It’s easy, fun and there’s something for everyone. To celebrate we went for a chat with Paul McQuaid, who began The Good Bike Project a number of years ago to refurbish and distribute donated bikes to refugees and people in need of bicycles. Together with the Men’s Shed in Mountjoy Prison’s Training Unit, and support from the Irish Red Cross, the Good Bike Project has returned over 4,000 bikes to use by families and individuals in need of a bike. As part of the ongoing collaboration with Men’s Sheds we are calling on sheds in urban centres with storage capacity to become collection hubs for donated bicycles.
