  • Rhododendron Clearing in Killarney National Park

Since 2018 over 300 men’s sheds members representing sheds from Armagh to Cork travelled to Killarney National Park, Co. Kerry for a unique project.  The shed members came to town to take on the notorious rhododendron ponticum – a species of invasive rhododendron which is threatening to overrun areas of the spectacular national park.

The good news is that the men’s shed rhododendron squad succeeded in clearing a significant area of the park, and enjoyed the hospitality of the hoteliers, businesses and people of Killarney while they did so. The even better news is that the project was such as success, our friends and partners Kennelly Pharmacies and Flo Gas have succeeded in making this Event happen again in 2024.

If your shed would like to participate, we’re currently accepting expressions of interest from those who wish to take part. This year’s cull will run from Sunday November 3rd to Wednesday  November 6th. All Accommodation and travel costs within Killarney will be provided, but the shed members taking part will have to make their own transport arrangements to/from Killarney.

It is very important to NOTE  that all those taking part will require a reasonable level of physical fitness. Contact eva@menssheds.ie or call (085 889 5471) to register your shed’s interest. Watch the video below to get a flavour of the Event and all that’s involved.
