About Moville Men’s Shed
Beginnings
The Shed was formed in 2014 when an enthusiastic group of local men came together to revamp and refurbish the former Neilly Gillespie’s workshop in Malin Road. Its location convenient to the town centre made it ideal. Much work in those early days was put into bringing the workshop up to an acceptable standard for modern use and this has continued incrementally over the years. The ground floor has fully accessible toilets as well as sundry woodworking tools. Stairs (with a stair-lift) link the ground floor with the first floor, the hub of the Shed. Here men can sit around the table and have a chat next to a beautiful Stanley No. 8 cooker or play on the pool table both donated by members. First floor central heating and a toilet in were installed in 2025.
Activities
A popular event is the Thursday night ‘seisiún’ which attracts lots of local musicians as well as appreciative listeners. A cup of tea and biscuits is provided mid-seisiún allowing attendees to catch up on gossip. A stage was put in place early on and with the addition of a modern sound system the Shed has welcomed in concert acts such as The Henry Girls, Logue & McCool as well as a host of local talent. Various courses are been laid on for members on subjects such as cooking, computers, mobile phone, guitar etc. Members also organise day trips to other Men’s Sheds where they can see how they operate and pick up ideas.
