Legendary Singer Songwriter John Spillane Entertains The Shedders

Legendary singer, songwriter, poet, dreamer John Spillane kindly agreed to entertain the Shedders on Wednesday 11 November. For almost an hour, we were enthralled as he played us a selection of his incredible songs from the beautiful ‘Passage West’, the evocative and widely-covered ‘Magic Nights in the Lobby Bar’ to one of his more recent but no less classic compositions ‘The Streets of Ballyphehane’.

He also regaled us with a selection from ‘Irish Songs We Learned At School, Ar Ais Arís!’ – bringing us back to the days of Báidín Fheilimí! – and of course a John Spillane gig wouldn’t be complete without a few of his inimitable stories. We were also joined by Jimmy Murphy, local Passage West historian, and Frank Clarke of Passage West Men’s Shed.  We hope John will return when his new album ‘100 Snow White Horses’ is released in the coming months.
